How are your products made?
We care passionately about our integrity and the environment so needless to say quality workmanship and materials are imperative. Our artisans handcraft products employing skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, and use only superior materials and finishes.

What materials do you use?
The materials we use in our products vary depending on the product collection:

Banana Fiber is hand woven from exactly that, natural banana fibers. Fast-growing and highly sustainable, the fibers are a by-product of the banana harvest. Extracted from the discarded trees, it undergoes a drying, curing and twisting process. Light and dark toned fibers are woven together to create a unique and attractive product that is sturdy yet stunning.

Rattan cane is an uncommonly resilient material taken from the rattan tree. Dried and then stained in various neutral tones, rattan grows rapidly and its durability and resistance to splintering make it ideal for weaving and an excellent alternative to wood.

Seagrass is used for its sustainability, strength and lovely colour variances. Select natural grasses are planted in the unused rice fields during the dry off-season, gathered and then twisted into a resilient rope for hand weaving.

Water hyacinth grows rapidly and abundantly in rivers often creating blockages. These grasses are removed to alleviate flooding concerns and we collect, dry and weave them into lovely chunky-textured creations. Water hyacinth also dyes easily and we offer up some vibrant alternatives to neutral.

Surprisingly, our wood collection is mostly made of reclaimed materials. Using rich, superior quality woods such as rosewood and mango wood, we try to source unused or scrap pieces whenever we can. We also do our best to use reclaimed glass in our products whenever possible. Our cotton basket liners are made of un-dyed cotton and most products are finished with a water-based non-toxic lacquer.

Please do not hesitate to ask for clarification regarding the finishes and materials used for each item.
